What better way to conclude a summer than with Olympics? Modeled after the spirit of the Olympic games, we highlight community, teamwork, personal best, and courage. Just as in the real Olympics, it is not winner take all – we award plaques for each team event (everything from volleyball to fishing).
Camp Echo Olympic Games are complete with an Olympic Torch, Olympic Rings, and permission to enter the Games. We have tremendous build-up to the event all summer; campers don’t know how, when, and where the Olympics will begin. They also try and guess whom our guest Olympic Athlete will be!
That’s right! We invite a real Olympic Medalist to open Camp Echo’s Olympics! This athlete is chosen based on his or her ability to communicate to children the spirit of the Games – team effort and striving for personal best. We are honored to have these Olympians join our camp community, as they sign autographs and answer the questions of eager campers. Along with carrying the Olympic Spirit, athletes bring their medals and are at camp to cheer on the players.
Past Olympic Medalists include the 1980 hockey team goalie Jim Craig (“Miracle”), most decorated American skier ever Phil Mahre, gymnastics gold medalist Kerri Strug and ice skater Paul Wylie.
We’re proud to bring the spirit of the Olympics to our campers. What better way for them to gain a true understanding of what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself? To understand firsthand what it’s like to belong and contribute to, not only the spirit of Camp, but to the soul of humanity. |
